Freelancers Union waged an aggressive campaign for fair taxation—urging lawmakers to tax freelancers no less—and no more—than traditional employees. They heard our calls—and they responded, eliminating the UBT for those earning less than $100,000, and enacting a tax credit for freelancers earning up to $150,000.

Freelancers Union strongly supports the national effort to provide access to quality, affordable coverage for all independent workers. While health reform has passed, many aspects of the bill still need to be worked out. We will continue to insert freelancers' voice in the conversation and actively help to shape how reform plays out.

In 2009, Freelancers Union made its first foray into local political elections. We were thrilled to get to know—and endorse—a number of candidates who understood the issues that affect the freelance community, and we helped many of them win their races!
