Where we are

Our offices are located within the Made in NY Media Center at 30 John Street, Brooklyn, near the F subway line's York Street stop.

Communications and Marketing Manager

We’re looking for a Communications and Marketing Manager who can grow Freelancers Union’s membership, lead marketing activities to support our business goals, and drive a national conversation on the challenges facing freelancers by providing valuable content and resources across all of our channels.

Your responsibilities would include managing Freelancers Union’s communications calendar, developing and maintaining marketing partnerships, and leading the growth of our blog, email, and online community.

You should be well-organized, extremely detail-oriented, and able to translate the mission and values of Freelancers Union into effective member communications.


  • Maintain a rich content/editorial calendar to support Freelancers Union initiatives and grow membership
  • Manage the No. 1 blog for freelancers, with 1 million annual views, including soliciting and editing member submissions
  • Identify new content areas and digital strategies to build member engagement and improve member resources
  • Write social media copy, emails, blog posts, and newsletters
  • Develop and implement social campaigns to build union membership and grow member initiatives while meeting strategic growth targets
  • Manage marketing and content partnerships and report on campaign performance
  • Analyze website and social analytics, reporting weekly to provide insights and measure results against strategic goals


  • 5+ years experience in content strategy, communications, and/or content marketing; expertise with paid social marketing and SEO strongly preferred
  • Outstanding writing and copy editing skills; writes engaging content optimized for email, blog, social, web, and media channels
  • Outstanding analytical skills, proficiency in setting KPIs and synthesizing metrics and feedback to make recommendations on areas of optimization and new directions
  • Strong project management skills and ability to move projects forward independently
  • Works collaboratively with internal stakeholders as well as partners to lead successful campaigns and manage a crowded communications calendar
  • Possesses basic understanding of photo and video editing for social media content
