Freelancers Union is looking for a creative and resourceful Hub Operations Assistant to support the growth of our coworking space. Working closely with our Hub Director, you’ll help manage daily operations, organize events, and cultivate a welcoming, engaging space for NYC’s diverse freelance community. It’s a vibrant resource center where creative freelancers can gather, collaborate, and grow their businesses with access to classes, legal clinics, networking events, and more.
Job Description: Freelancers Union is hiring a Hub Operations Assistant to support the Hub Director in managing our Brooklyn Freelancers Hub and expanding our community outreach. We’re looking for someone with a strong understanding of NYC’s freelance and creative communities and a passion for delivering valuable, engaging content and events that meet freelancers where they are.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support implementation of the Hub’s monthly programming calendar, including event logistics and day-of execution
- Host and manage events in the space—coordinating with instructors, partners, and attendees to ensure a smooth and engaging experience
- Supervise the coworking space, check in members, give tours, and respond to questions as the first point of contact
- Build genuine relationships with members and use community insights to shape future content and programming
- Collaborate with the Freelancers Union comms team to promote events through social media, email, and flyers
- Draft event emails, update signage, and maintain clear and timely communications across all platforms
- Track attendance and gather feedback to assess programming impact and inform improvements
- Ensure the Hub is clean, organized, and accessible—setting up and breaking down events as needed
Qualifications:
- 3+ years of experience in community engagement, event coordination, or communications
- Passion for NYC’s creative and freelance communities
- A friendly, professional presence with strong interpersonal skills and a love of building community
- Excellent writing and storytelling skills with a voice that connects with cultural and creative audiences
- Highly organized and detail-oriented with a proactive, can-do attitude
- Experience using tools like Canva, Mailchimp, Eventbrite, or similar platforms
- Bonus: Familiarity with graphic design, social content creation, or photography equipment
